The AAFCO Collaborative Check Sample Program is a Proficiency Testing Program for analytical chemistry laboratories and consists of twelve specially ground and mixed commercially manufactured animal feed samples. The series, which begins in January of each year, includes a variety of feeds, pet foods and supplements with nutrients, drugs, antibiotics, minerals, and vitamins at levels typically encountered in commercial products. Samples are shipped to participants each month of the year and are tested for analytes of interest by each lab. Results for individual analytes are reported using specified AAFCO method codes and units to allow for analysis of the performance of individual methods or method types. Reported results are analyzed statistically and participants are provided with performance scores for each analyte and method reported. Results are used by laboratories as part of their quality control/quality assurance programs. Extra materials from each monthly testing round are offered for purchase as Quality Reference Materials (QRMs) or “past samples”.
Laboratory data are reported using the AAFCO Check Sample Program data reporting website. Prepared report cards and method performance reports of the consensus summary data are available for download from the AAFCO Check Sample Program data reporting website.
NEW - AAFCO Collaborative Check Sample Program Pet Food Add-on Program
AAFCO is offering a new Proficiency Testing Program for Pet Food ingredients. Labs subscribing to the 2013 AAFCO Collaborative Check Sample Program may be eligible to participate in a quarterly Pet Food Add-on Program. For the pilot offering of this new Program type, we are limiting eligibility to those labs in the United States. Registration also will be limited to those labs that submit their completed subscription forms before January 4th 2013. The annual cost for the Add-on Program is $92 in addition to the regular subscription of $276 for the year. Total subscription costs of $368 must be pre-paid for the year by January 4th 2013. Please complete the Pet Food Ingredient add-on Program section at the bottom of the 2013 Program Order Form to subscribe your lab today!
At quarterly intervals, labs participating in the Add-on Program will receive two samples in their AAFCO shipment; comprised of one portion of the regular AAFCO feed material for that month and one other pet food ingredient sample. Ingredient samples will represent plant-derived ingredients (two per year) such as yellow corn, de-hulled soybean meal, wheat gluten or corn gluten meal and animal derived ingredients (two per year) such as sodium caseinate, dried cheese product, poultry meal or dried egg product.
