A Letter from Our President

Dear AAFCO Members,

With summer in full swing, I hope folks are making arrangements to attend the 2025 Annual Meeting in Omaha next month. It should be another good meeting with some excellent topics on the agenda.

AAFCO continues to make progress on many of the projects we have underway. The new Scientific Review of Ingredient Submissions (SRIS) program has opened the portal for qualified subject matter experts to put their names forward to be part of future expert panels for scientific reviews (more information on that below). In addition, we will be announcing the new SRIS program manager very soon.

Pet Food Label Modernization (PFLM) continues to be implemented across states. AAFCO held a successful pet food labeling workshop in May at the Pet Food Forum in Kansas City, MO and we are looking forward to another one at our AAFCO Annual Meeting. These are excellent learning opportunities and we’re happy to be putting them on.

We hope that you’ve had a chance to check out the new digital subscription-based Official Publication. Remember you have access to the Feed Labelling and Pet Food Labeling guides. You also have access to all the previous OPs going back to 1929. The subscription includes the Online Database of Ingredients (ODI), which allows you to search for individual ingredients or input an entire ingredient list to confirm that ingredients are acceptable for use in animal feed, including pet food. The results will indicate if the ingredient is found in the AOP, the CFR, or the Common Food Index (CFI). This is a great resource, and I encourage you to check it out.

In addition to these new projects, AAFCO continues to stay informed on other issues that impact our members. Changes at the federal level and their effect on funding models continue to be closely monitored. We are working with our colleagues at NASDA to ensure that messaging on the value state feed programs bring is being communicated. And we continue to monitor for any proposed changes to legislation.

I hope everyone is able to take some time to rest and relax this summer. Take care and I look forward to seeing many of you in Omaha.

Sincerely,

Laura Scott

President

2025 AITS Highlights

This year’s Advanced Inspector Training Seminar brought together regulators from across the country for interactive, hands-on sessions focused on feed and GMP requirements, feed labeling, and more. Attendees also took part in lively Q&A sessions and heard from keynote speaker Mike Ferjak of I Know a Guy Training and Consulting, who shared powerful insights on investigative strategies and professional growth. Thank you to all who participated and made the event a success! Dates for the 2026 AITS meeting will be announced this fall.

2025 FAS Highlights

The Feed Administrators Seminar once again had lots of good discussions and chances for various states to share how their programs do things. A big thank you to Kentucky and the FAS planning committee for putting this together and for all their hospitality. They made sure we had an interesting agenda and that everyone was well taken care of (including some early shuttle rides to the airport).
