Industry Updates

PURR Act Update

The House Appropriations Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee approved its Fiscal Year 2027 bill, which includes Section 425 language incorporating a large portion of the PURR Act of 2025. AAFCO remains concerned that this language represents a significant policy shift with structural implications for federal preemption, ingredient oversight, and the role of state programs.

AAFCO is working alongside our partners at NASDA to advocate for alternative language that strengthens and upholds consumer protection and an integrated food safety system.

Review the bill language and share your concerns with state agriculture leaders and lawmakers today. Contact AAFCO@aafco.org with questions or to arrange state-level discussions.

Educational Opportunities

The American Feed Industry Association has three upcoming education opportunities for regulators and industry professionals to expand their knowledge of the feed industry. Regulators can register for any of these courses at the member rate. Contact Bridget Fannon to register.

Feed Industry Institute

Join the AFIA June 15 - 18 at the Embassy Suites Minneapolis Downtown for the Feed Industry Institute (FII), a four-day immersive program designed to deliver a comprehensive look at the animal food industry. FII goes beyond a basic introduction, providing an end-to-end understanding of the feed, pet food and ingredient sectors - from formulation to production, quality, safety and regulatory considerations. Ideal for professionals new to the industry or transitioning into new roles, the program is offered only every two years, so join us now to gain practical insights and a stronger industry foundation for  career success.

PCQI Training

The AFIA will be hosting its Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Training in Nashville, Tenn., July 13 - 15. This Food and Drug Administration-recognized course meets the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements for animal food and delivers the standardized curriculum needed for certification.  Participants will cover key topics like Good Manufacturing Practices, hazard analysis, preventive controls and food safety planning. Complete the course and earn your official FSPCA PCQI certificate.

Fundamentals of Feed Manufacturing

The AFIA and Kansas State University invite you to join the AFIA-KSU 500: Fundamentals of Feed Manufacturing, a five-week, self-paced online course running Aug. 4 - Sept. 8. This course delivers a clear, practical introduction to how feed is made and the systems that ensure it is done safely and efficiently. This course will be offered again in October.
