AAFCO Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Common Food Index Updates
The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is seeking public comment on adding two items to the Common Food Index (CFI): parsnip and Saskatoon berries. AAFCO’s subcommittee of experienced ingredient definition and label reviewers assessed and narrowed this list to only those food items meeting the criteria of a “Common Food” as defined by AAFCO.
AAFCO invites stakeholders—including veterinarians, animal nutritionists, consumer groups, and the public—to review the proposed food items (parsnip and Saskatoon berries) and provide specific feedback regarding their suitability for inclusion in the CFI.
Comments may be submitted by clicking here or by emailing aafco@aafco.org with the subject line “CFI Updates”. All feedback must be submitted by May 31, 2026.
Please note that the CFI is not a naming or quality standard.
