Licensing Compliance Specialist

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking one qualified individual to fulfill the duties as a Licensing Compliance Specialist for the Office of Plant Industry Services in the Division of Consumer Protection. This position will report to the head office located in Richmond City. The selected candidate will be responsible for effectively implementing the compliance review and acceptance of regulated products for registration, as required under the Animal Remedy Law, Virginia Commercial Feed Law, Virginia Commercial Fertilizer Law. Duties include reviewing product labels required for registration; ensuring that state and federal laws and guidelines are met; resolving issues with clients related to label requirements; and managing the statistical reporting of commercial animal feed, commercial fertilizer, soil amendments and horticultural growing medium. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth’s telework policy.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the scientific principles related to animal remedies, animal feed and supplements as well as fertilizer products and horticulture production, as well as the ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations and to communicate effectively with clients and the public while providing exceptional customer service. Qualified applicants should be detail orientated with effective organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills and have experience in the use of standard office automation software (MS Office Suite) such as word processing and spreadsheets, database systems, data entry and data retrieval procedures as well as basic procedures involving tracking and recordkeeping. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety. H.S. Diploma/GED required. Additional Considerations: A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities along with knowledge of animal science, horticulture, biology, agriculture, or a related science. Additionally, knowledge of the Animal Remedy Law, Virginia Commercial Feed Law, Virginia Fertilizer Law and Virginia Agricultural Liming Materials Act and associated regulations and current or recent experience in dealing with diverse clients in a similar regulatory position also considered. Hiring Salary Range: $40,839 to $58,894 annually. Excellent State Benefits. The final candidate must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
